GenerateSunrise after a free party, June 98
Beginning in June '98 Generate parties became increasingly successful throughout the summer of 1998. From November '98 Generate they became members only running at the Phorpres Club from 9pm to 6am. The membership scheme was in force to allow us to use the venue all-night (all-night parties were a rarity in Peterborough and there was no sign of the council adopting the relaxing of the laws seen elsewhere in the country).

Generate Flyer June 99...The Piper's calling you to join himIn June of 1999 we celebrated our third birthday with a record sell-out attendance at the Phorpres, a wonderful culmination after a year of hard work and many laughs. The place was rammed and most of the faces were new to our core of long time panksters. What a buzz! Each Generate following that great night saw the venue sold out and a different decor and layout adopted to keep the nights fresh.

For Hanky Panky the year 2000 was quite a different year compared to the previous four. From the early days in '96 up until the Millennium party on Generate November 98New Years Eve 1999 we had undergone a steady growth in knowledge, experience and numbers. Free party in the woods, Lincolnshire June 98We had put on all-nighters in three different venues and learnt how to put on outdoor parties. Our initial goal of putting on a millennium eve party was achieved and our Phorpres home was to be demolished, it was time to take stock of things, have a breather and work out what was next.

So after 18 parties in as many months things were a little more relaxed through the summer of 2000 with four outdoor parties one of which was the sun drenched 4th Birthday. And although we were taking things quietly with little or no promotion the reputation we'd built up meant that the numbers hovered remained highfor each party, a real vindication of all the hard work and effort that we'd put in previously.

Gammy entertains the crowd. The Quarry, New Year's Eve 2000.
This was new ground for us as we moved north to Sleaford in an effort to find all-night licenced venues. New Year 2000 was a brilliant opportunity for us as the venue offered to do a free party as they could not get a licence to do a paying party (due to the restrictions upon dancing on a sunday). Its not every day you get the opportunity to do a free party in a pukka club venue. The size of the Quarry allowed us to go to town on the decor and get out nearly every bit of decor we'd accumulated over the years. It was also an opportunity to take the Hanky Panky vibe to a new audience and to see if we could repeat the success we'd had in Peterborough. The locals had been fed a diet of hard house and trance based nights which echoed the commericial end of the current dance scene. Could we lure them into the more underground and harder sound we played? The night went like a dream the venue was packed with 4-500 people who danced the night away. A great way to start 2001.

The success of New Years Eve prompted us to return to Lincolnshire and try our luck again for the 5th Birthday in June 2001. We were not dissapointed. Generate November 98We had found a superb venue, Ashby Hall, a former country mansion surrounded by Cedar trees and a lake! Its aura and ornate architecture fitted the gargole loving panksters like a glove. Well, the night blew even our expectations away as we rammed the dancefloor and unleashed our euphoric sound and vibe. The clapping, whistling, stamping and shouting from a joyous crowd left us all well pleased. Everyone had come out to play.

5th Birthday fun

and laughed against the moon"
